Meet Our Principal
Mrs. Leslie Gyan began her career in education in 2009 as a nonprofit financial literacy facilitator. In 2011, she joined Dallas ISD as a certified long-term substitute teacher, and the following school year, she became a Reading Mastery teacher at Medrano Junior High School. Throughout her tenure, Ms. Gyan has taught a variety of subjects, including Debate, Reading, Writing, the AVID elective, and Student Leadership.
In 2014, Mrs. Gyan transitioned to high school education, serving as an English teacher, Student Council advisor, and Debate coach while earning her Master of Education degree. Her leadership and dedication to student success led to roles as department chair and class sponsor for three consecutive years before she accepted an AVID Coordinator position at a neighboring high school.
Motivated by her deep commitment to the students and families of Dallas ISD, Mrs. Gyan returned to the district as an Instructional Lead Coach in the Magnet, Transformation, and Single-Gender network, supporting campuses from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade while completing her Principal Certification.
After three years in that capacity, Mrs. Gyan served as an Assistant Principal at Woodrow Wilson High School for five years, where she became the founding principal of the Woodrow Wilson P-TECH. She now brings her extensive leadership experience and passion for educational excellence to Frederick Douglass Elementary School, where she is honored to serve as principal and lead a dynamic community of students, educators, and families.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Mrs. Gyan enjoys spending quality time and making lasting memories with her loving family, which includes her husband and three children.
